Questions
Is this the VA or affiliated with the government?
No. Veteran Families First is a private company that connects veterans and their families with licensed life insurance agents. We're not affiliated with or endorsed by the VA, the Department of Defense, or any branch of the military.
Does it cost anything to check?
No. Checking your options is free. You only pay a premium if you decide to buy a policy.
How is this different from VGLI or VALife?
VGLI is term coverage you convert to after leaving the service, and its premiums go up as you age. VALife is whole life coverage for veterans with a service-connected disability rating; it goes up to $40,000 and full coverage starts two years after you apply. Private policies come from insurance companies, and depending on your health, some pay the full amount from day one.
Will a service-connected condition disqualify me?
Not automatically. Carriers look at specific health conditions and medications, not your VA rating by itself. Your agent can tell you which carriers fit your situation, including plans with no health questions.
I already have VGLI or VALife. Can I still check?
Yes. Many veterans add a private policy to cover the gap between what they have and what a funeral and final bills actually cost.

Who will call me, and when?
One licensed agent in your state calls the number you enter, usually during business hours. The call may come from a local number. You can ask them to stop at any time.
